- "Cheer up, Billy. Just think, we're going to Asia! We're going to see Shanghai and Hong Kong and Singapore again—and who knows what else!"
- ―Jean Magliore to Billy Turner
Asia was the world's largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the eastern and northern hemispheres. Many countries were found in Asia, examples like India, Singapore and China. Seas and oceans that surrounded Asia included Indian Ocean, South China Sea and Pacific Ocean, which were full of pirates who pillaged rich merchant ships from Europe. Many European countries had colonies in Asia, for example France, Spain, Holland, and England. English colonization in the Indian subcontinent of Asia was led by the East India Trading Company.
History
The notorious pirate Captain Jack Sparrow has been in Asia on more than one occasion, notably in the event in which Liang Dao lost the title of Pirate Lord of Singapore and the South China Sea to his brother, Sao Feng.[1] In Asia, the dragon is a sign of power, imperial might, and strength in war. Sao Feng beared this tattoo as do his loyal followers.[2] By the war against piracy led by Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company, Asia was drawn onto a map of the world created in the EITC headquarters in Port Royal,[3][4][2][5] along with a smaller map in the captain's cabin of the Endeavour.[6]
Behind the scenes
Asia was first depicted and identified on a map of the world in the 2006 filmPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.[3] The map would also be featured in the reference books Pirates of the Caribbean: The Visual Guide,[4] Pirates of the Caribbean: The Complete Visual Guide,[2] and The Secret Files of the East India Trading Company.[5] Asia would make its first appearance in T.T. Sutherland's junior novelization for the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.[7][6]
