Captain Hector Barbossa owned a book titled Greek Mythology.
- "Tell me, what do you think of my collection? I keep my favorite books close to me, though, of course, I have the entire library next door."
"Nice collection. I’ve read only a few of them. My favorite would be this one." - ―Cutler Beckett and Jack Sparrow
A book is a medium for recording information in the form of writing or drawings, typically composed of many pages (made of papyrus, parchment, vellum, or paper) bound together and protected by a cover. The technical term for this physical arrangement is codex (plural, codices). In the history of hand-held physical supports for extended written compositions or records, the codex replaces its predecessor, the scroll.
History
By the Age of Piracy, books were written and read by many individuals. When Pablo came to a lavishly appointed cabin that clearly belonged to Sharkheart Sam, he found an account book for the Buzzard on a desk.[1] The Brethren Court adhered to the Pirata Codex, a handwritten volume of yellowing pages on which the words of Morgan and Bartholomew are preserved,[2] which served as the revered collection of "guidelines" that helps pirates to solve disputes without resorting to slaughter.[3] Some individuals, like Jack Sparrow,[4] Cutler Beckett,[4] Hector Barbossa,[5] and Elizabeth Swann.[6]
Behind the scenes
Books have been a part of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, notably the Walt Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean souvenir book. The first in-universe appearance was an account book in the 1996 book Climb Aboard If You Dare!: Stories From The Pirates of the Caribbean,[1] as well as the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.[6]
