Two Royal Marine sergeants at the interrupted wedding of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann.

"This afternoon I'm on guard duty at the governor's mansion. It's my big chance to shine and get on His Excellency's good side! When he gets a load of how dapper I look, I'll be promoted to sergeant in no time."
Mullroy to Murtogg[src]

Sergeant was a rank in the Royal Marines. Its origins are the Latin serviens, "one who serves", through the French term Sergent. The Royal Marines' sergeants' main job is to keep the soldiers disciplined and in line. Sergeants are trained to fight with a Cutlass, and sometimes a Rapier. They patrol the Navy's forts, such as Fort Charles, or Kingshead. They are also found in the frontlines of battles, such as the Raid on the Catacombs. They are quite formidable in battle.
