"I love this song. Really bad eggs. When I get the Pearl back, I'm gonna teach it to the whole crew, and we'll sing it all the time."
"And you'll be positively the most fearsome pirates in the Spanish Main!"
"Not just the Spanish Main, love. The entire ocean, the entire world.

Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth Swann[src]

The ocean was the body of salt water that covered about 70% of Earth. There were different customs to subdivide the ocean and are adjourned by smaller bodies of water such as, seas, gulfs, bays, bights, and straits. The ocean influenced climate and weather patterns, as well as provided many benefits to humans such as a means of transport, access to seafood and other marine resources.

In English, the terms "the ocean" or "the sea" used without specification refer to the interconnected body of salt water covering the majority of Earth's surface. It included the large bodies of water into which the world ocean was conventionally divided, most notably the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. As a general term, "the ocean" and "the sea" are often interchangeable.
